OVP meets KFC

Hold on a minute…before you get to thinking that OVP Coaching is changing its USP we want to assure you that OVP is Coaching as usual…well, in a kind of finger licking KFC way that is.

We were invited to take part in the KFC Open Kitchen in the West Midlands, UK. It was a pretty eye-opening experience. We got to see both front and back of house and learned a few tricks of the trade.

Fresh or Frozen?

From chicken to salad all ingredients were freshly stocked and for the most part, from UK farmers. We had a go at breading our own chicken and stacking a special burger. But no matter how many times we asked about the Colonel’s secret ingredient, it was kept a secret.

The reason we’re reporting on this is because of the discipline and dedication that goes into making a meal and the service that goes with it. The staff at this location were really proud to have a KFC career and rightly so. Despite the fact that youngsters tend to apply for temporary roles in the fast food industry, the staff here have been with the company for an average of 8 years. They encourage their employees to continue their training and worked their way up the ranks to management positions. The Area manager did just that. He started as he admits as a ‘cocky teen who matured’. Now he is responsible for 5 restaurants across the West Midlands in his eight years of training.

It’s no wonder then, that the whole team worked cohesively and were more than willing to teach us a thing or two around the kitchen. Preparing burgers looks easy right? but when you have to get it right first time, every time in a matter of seconds; you need to have the skill and the discipline to pull it off.

We all aspire to different careers and lifestyles but the one thing we all need to have no matter our path in life is discipline. As the late Jim Rohn said;

“Discipline is the bridge between goals and achievement”

A big thank you to all the staff at KFC West Midlands bringing us service with a smile.
